MSI Resident Composer, Jason Metheney....
Jason Metheney joins with the Master Singers Chorale in his 11th season as Resident Composer. MSI, during its 2003-2004 season, commissioned him to write his first large choral composition with orchestra, "Quinque Psalmi". His intuitive style and understanding of the human voice gave rise to one of the most awe inspiring works the Master Singers Chorale has undertaken. The performance was met with cheers of "bravo", a standing ovation and the heartfelt shedding of tears from those in the audience. At the completion of the performance of "Quinque Psalmi", the emotion and silence in the audience was absolutely deafening. His "Quinque Pslami" reached out and into the hearts and souls of all in attendance.
Mr. Metheney possesses a rare sense of pathos, sensitivity, romanticism and deep emotional involvement with each of his works. He is a rising star in the world of choral composition and MSI is privileged to be a small part of his achieving his goals for the future. MSC is also very proud to have the opportunity to showcase Mr. Metheney's works throughout these many concert seasons. It is truly an honor for Northeast Ohio and MSC to be able to share in the cultivating of a truly gifted young composer.
Jason Metheney completed his degrees in music from the University of Akron where he studied choral conducting and composition with Dr. Samuel Gordon. During his studies, UA choirs premiered eleven of Metheney's original compositions, and subsequently included two of his anthems in the repertoire for their choir tour of Italy in 2001.
