MSI Premiere Composer, Costas Dafnis

Lives in MI, United States

My name is Costas Dafnis. I was born on 7/27/1989. I currently play piano, guitar, and drums. My main influences include John Williams, Claude Debussy, Danny Elfman, Arturo Rodriguez, and Eric Whitacre.

My "Kamia Apologia" for orchestra was premiered and recorded in Cambridge, England on March 17th 2005.

My "Titan" for concert band won 1st place in its division in the "Its Cold Out There Sibeliusmusic Chat Page Competition. It is scheduled to be performed on December 11th 2005, by the KCC Concert Band in Battle Creek, MI.

I was recently commisioned by "Voces Capituli" to compose a piece for 4 part male ensemble. The sacred work will be performed with a full mass as it tours France in the Summer of 2006. Because they enjoyed my work, I have now accepted an offer of a paid commision to compose a Missa Brevis for Voces Capituli.

"The Deep", a piece I wrote for Women's Choir (SSA) has been selected by the Michigan Honors Composition Contest for performance in its annual concert.

Besides composing, I also enjoy writing poetry - influenced by the likes of Stephen Crane, Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Anthony Silvestri, and Octavio Paz. Some of my poetry has been set to music for choir (by myself and others).
